This North Raleigh couple carefully weighed their options and decided doing a home addition to accommodate the physical needs of aging would suit them best. After talking to 12 builders, they chose Vaughan Building to handle this project. Not wanting to leave their home of decades, an ADA compliant master suite addition was constructed. The addition includes wider doorways, softer hallway turns, lower vanities, closet shelving and racks, and front loading appliances for wheel chair accessibility. The bathroom features an alcove shower with no threshold or door, a raised toilet/bidet, and grab bars. The smallest details, such as levers rather than knobs was not overlooked. Despite the ADA features, the design throughout appeals as a warm home with no "medical facility" feel at all. In fact, when this home was featured on the Raleigh Remodelers Tour, many visitors said, "Ok, where is the ADA stuff," not realizing they had just walked up the wheelchair ramp.
